Women’s Hockey Falls to Augsburg

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team was shutout for just the second time this season as the Blugolds fell to Augsburg College 2-0 here today at Hobbs Ice Center.

The Blugolds fall to 1-11-1 overall while the Auggies improve to 5-4-2.  The game marked just the second shutout of the season for the Blugolds who lost to Bethel University 5-0 in the season opener on October 31.

After a scoreless first period that saw just one penalty, the Auggies broke the scoreless tie on a power play goal at 4:58 of the second period giving Augsburg a 1-0 lead.  Augsburg added a second goal at 19:58 of the second period extending their lead to 2-0.

Eight of the game's 11 penalties were called in the third period as the Blugolds attempted to climb their way back into the game but were unable to score a goal.  Four of the Blugolds' five penalties were called in the third period.

In her first collegiate start, goalie Shania Johnson (Fr.-Park Rapids, MN) saved 24 shots in 59:02 before being pulled to add an extra attacker.  Andi Husted (Sr.-Scottsdale, AZ/Shattuck St. Mary's) and Jaedyn Walz (Fr.-Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) led the Blugolds taking four shots apiece.

Eau Claire was outshot 26-22 and was unable to capitalize on three power play opportunities. 

The Blugolds return to the ice on Friday, January 2 when they travel to face St. Mary's University in Winona, Minnesota.  Face-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
