Women’s Hockey Fight Falcons in 3-2 Loss

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Down 3-0 entering the third period, the UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team staged an impressive comeback scoring two goals but fell just short against the sixth-ranked UW-River Falls Falcons 3-2 here today at Hobbs Ice Center.

The Blugolds fall to 0-8-0 on the season and 0-4-0 in the WIAC while the Falcons improve to 5-2-0 overall and 3-1-0 in conference play.

The Falcons were aggressive offensively in the first two periods outshooting the Blugolds 40-4 and scoring three goals, two coming off power plays. 

Eau Claire started their comeback in the third period off a River Falls miscue when the Falcons' Dani Sibley was called for interference just three second into the period.  Claudia Gagnon (So.-Duluth, MN/East) scored her team-leading third goal of the season unassisted cutting the Falcon lead to 3-1. 

Ashley Baugher (Jr.-Crystal Lake, IL/Central) scored her first goal of the season at 16:17 assisted by Jaedyn Walz (Fr.-Woodbury, MN/East Ridge) and Jennifer Thomsen (Fr.-Apple Valley, MN) to get within one goal at 3-2.

Eau Claire continued to put pressure on the River Falls defense but was unable to score the game-tying goal.

Goalie Paige Turner (Jr.-Iron River, WI/Duluth East) posted her third 40-plus save performance of the season, denying 46 shots in 60 minutes.

Despite being outshot 49-13 for the game the Blugolds put nine shots on goal in the third period.

The Blugolds get back into action on Tuesday, November 25 when they travel to Minnesota to face Hamline University.  Face-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
