Women’s Hockey Unable to Hold Off St. Thomas

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team led 2-0 after two periods by the University of St. Thomas scored three third period goals to defeat the Blugolds 3-2 here tonight at Saint Thomas Ice Arena.

The Blugolds fall to 0-3-0 on the season while St. Thomas evens up its record at 1-1-0. 

Defenseman Amanda Kane (Sr.-Maplewood, MN/North St. Paul) scored the game's first goal assisted by forward Jennifer Thomsen (Fr.-Apple Valley, MN) giving Eau Claire a 1-0 lead entering the first intermission.

The Blugolds added to their lead in the second period when forward Claudia Gagnon (So.-Duluth, MN/East) scored her first goal of the year at 16:41 assisted by forwards Emma Silkey (So.-Chaska, MN) and Katie Burkey (So.-Ramsey, MN/Anoka).

The tide changed drastically in the third period as the Tommies went on to score three unanswered goals, the final coming with just 2.5 seconds remaining in regulation, giving St. Thomas the come-from-behind win.

Goalie Paige Turner (Jr.-Iron River, WI/Duluth East) played all three periods saving 43 shots on the night.  Her record now stands at 0-2-0 on the season.

Eau Claire was outshot by the Tommies 46-12.  The Blugolds were whistled for two penalties while the Tommies were call for just one penalty on the evening.

The Blugolds return home tomorrow, November 8 where they will host the University of St. Catherine.  Face off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
