Women's Tennis Wins Second in a Row in South Carolina

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team won its second dual competition in a row on spring break, defeating the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.) 8-1 today.

The Blugolds won every match except at No. 4 singles.

Stephanie Wolf (Fr.-Verona, Wis./Verona Area) had the Blugolds best win, defeating her No. 6 opponent 6-0, 6-0.

Katie Gillman (Fr.-Red Wing, Minn.) had a strong showing as well, falling in just three games as she won 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 2 spot. Emily Hiebl (Jr.-Wausau, Wis./East) won 6-4, 6-1 at No. 5 singles.

Gretchen Bachmeier (So.-Eau Claire, Wis./North) and Taylor Heltne (So.-Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Simley) both played close matches. Bachmeier finished with a 7-5, 6-3 victory in the No. 3 spot. Heltne made a comeback at No. 1. After falling 4-6 in the opening set, she went on to win with scores of 6-4, 10-4 in her final two sets.

On the doubles side, the Blugolds played well.

Bachmeier and Mary Frassetto (Fr.-Oshkosh, Wis./West), along with Hiebl and Wolf, scored 8-1 wins at No. 2 and No. 3 respectively. Gillman and Heltne won 8-4 in the No. 1 spot.

The Blugolds are now 8-4 on the season.

Tomorrow morning the Blugolds will take to the courts once again to face Nebraska Wesleyan University.
