WHITEWATER, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team finished as the runner-up at the WIAC Team Tournament on Saturday. The second-seeded Blugolds defeated UW-Stevens Point in the semifinals before falling to top-seeded UW-Whitewater in the finals.

UW-Eau Claire defeated the third-seeded Pointers 5-1 to advance to the conference championship. The Blugolds won three singles matches and two doubles contests. Samantha Fuchs (So. - DeForest, Wis.) won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, Anna Lee (Fr. - Buffalo, Minn.) won 6-0, 6-4 in the fourth flight and Sydney Presler (Sr. - Eau Claire, Wis./Altoona) won at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-2. The other singles matches were abandoned while in progress due to the Blugolds reaching the required five team points to clinch the victory.
Fuchs and Clare Palen (Jr. - Rochester, Minn./Lourdes) prevailed 8-2 in No. 1 doubles against the Pointers. Presler and Morgan Dekan (So. - Altoona, Wis.) won 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
In the championship dual, the Warhawks won two singles matches and all three doubles contests to win 5-0.
2023 marked the second straight season the Blugolds earned a second-place finish at the WIAC Team Tournament.
