Women's Tennis Dominate Pointers and Earn Coach Cychosz First Win

EAU CLAIRE, WI (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's tennis team began their 2022-23 season on Saturday with a home Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) dual. As UW-Eau Claire faced off against UW-Stevens Point at the Eau Claire Memorial High School courts, UWEC came away with a 7-2 victory to earn head coach Ken Cychosz his first victory as the Blugolds' head coach.

Results

The Blugolds started the day with a sweep in doubles play over the Pointers to gain a quick three points. Samantha Fuchs (So. – DeForest, WI) and Morgan Nelson (Jr. – Beaver Dam, WI) battled hard at No. 1 doubles to earn an 8-7 (1-0) tiebreaker win. Morgan Dekan (So. – Altoona, WI) and Sydney Presler (Sr. – Eau Claire, WI/North) also picked up a hard-fought 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles. Anna Lee (Fr. – Buffalo, MN) and Liv Herzog (Fr. – Owatonna, MN) put together a quick 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles to complete the sweep. In singles play, Fuchs, Nelson, Lee, and Presler were all victorious in their matches to add four points and secure the 7-2 win.

The Blugolds (1-1, WIAC 1-1) will continue WIAC play on Wednesday, September 14th when they travel to Menomonie, WI to faceoff against UW-Stout. First serves are scheduled to begin at 3PM.
