MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire's Kirsten Lickel (Sr.- Madison, Wis./East) has been selected the recipient of the 2012 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Judy Kruckman Women's Swimming and Diving Scholar-Athlete Award.

A senior from Madison, Wis. (East), Lickel boasts a 3.84 grade point average and is majoring in human resource management. She was named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District Five College Division Women's At-Large First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Lickel is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and received Academic Distinction and Dean's List honors numerous semesters. She will graduate Summa Cum Laude in 2012.
A two-year team captain, Lickel is a four-time conference champion and a two-time All-America honorable mention selection. She holds school records in the 200-yard individual medley, 200-yard breaststroke, 400-yard freestyle relay, 800-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard medley relay. A year ago, Lickel received her team's Most Versatile Award, after claiming Rookie of the Year accolades in 2009.
She is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and the Alpha Lambda Delta and Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Societies. Lickel has served as a volunteer with Blugold Beginnings and coordinator of Blugold swimming lessons.
Also nominated for this year's scholar-athlete award were: UW-La Crosse's Sarah Swanson (Sr., Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View); UW-Stevens Point's Whitney Boehme (Sr., Thiensville, Wis.); and UW-Whitewater's Megan Roegner (Sr., Beloit, Wis./Memorial).
The WIAC Scholar-Athlete Award is named after Judy Kruckman who served as Assistant Commissioner for the WIAC from 1996-98. Prior to this appointment, she functioned as Commissioner of the Wisconsin Women's Intercollegiate Athletic Conference from October, 1984 - September, 1996.
In order to be nominated for the scholar-athlete award, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.50 grade point average. In addition, she must be in her last year of competition, or on schedule to graduate this academic year, and have competed for a minimum of two years.
