Women's Swimming & Diving Falls in Home Opener

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's swimming & diving team recorded four first-place finishes, but fell 140.5-95.5 to Minnesota State University, Mankato this evening.

In addition to the four wins, the Blugolds recorded 15 finishes of third or better in the loss to the Division II Mavericks. Julia Olson (Sr.-Faribault, Minn.) and Sara Eggebrecht (Jr.-Abbotsford, Wis./Colby) each contributed to two different first-place finishes. Olson raced to victory in the 50-yard freestyle in just 24.93 while Eggebrecht won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:17.06. Both Eggebrecht and Olson joined Kirsten Lickel (Sr.-Madison, Wis./East) and Grace Fair (Jr.-Monticello, Minn.) for a win in the 400 medley relay.

Nicole Dorvinen (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) also claimed a victory on the evening. Her time of 2:17.48 earned her the win in the 200-yard butterfly. Dorvinen also finished second and third in the 1,000 and 500-yard freestyle races, respectively.

In diving, Keeley Bensen (So.-Maple Grove, Minn.) led the way for the Blugolds, finishing second in the three-meter dive and third in the one-meter dive. She recorded respective scores of 143.10 and 146.20.

The Blugolds will next compete in the UW-Stevens Point and St. Cloud State meet Oct. 28 and 29. Competition is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and 12 p.m. on Saturday in the McPhee Physical Education Center.
