Women's Swimming & Diving Races to First Over Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's swimming & diving team won seven events en route to a 146-95 victory over UW-Oshkosh this afternoon.

In addition to the seven wins, the Blugolds captured over 20 top-three finishes over the Titans. Eau Claire had a strong showing in the 1,650-yard freestyle race, sweeping the top-four spots. Karen Boosalis (Sr.- Maple Grove, Minn.) won the event with a time of 19:12.86.

Both Eau Claire relay teams won this afternoon. Sara Eggebrecht (Jr.-Abbotsford, Wis./Colby), Emily Behrens (So.-Faribault, Minn.), Nicole Dorvinen (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) and Julia Olson (Sr.-Faribault, Minn.) combined to place first in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:08.65. Olson, Kirsten Lickel (Sr.-Madison, Wis./East), Chloe Bartuska (So.-Madison, Wis./McFarland) and Grace Fair (Jr.-Monticello, Minn.) also teamed up to win the 400-yard freestyle relay. They completed the event in just 3:44.56.

Bartuska had a strong day in other events as well. She won the 500-yard freestyle race with a time of 5:26.48 and led the Blugolds with a second place finish in the 200-yard freestyle event.

The other Eau Claire victories came from Olson, Lickel and Kia Kraft (Sr.- Menomonie, Wis.). Olson earned the win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.11 while Lickel completed the 400-yard individual medley in 4:48.81 for first. Kraft won the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:39.48 and also finished second in the 400-yard individual medley.

In diving, Keeley Bensen (So.- Maple Grove, Minn.) led the Eau Claire effort with a second place effort in the one-meter dive and third in the three-meter dive. She recorded respective scores of 179.93 and 178.13.

The Blugolds will next compete at River Falls against UW-River Falls and the University of Minnesota-Moorhead this Friday. Competition is set for 5:30 p.m.
