Twelve Blugold women receive AHCA All-America Scholar distinction

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) announced the women's 2020-21 Krampade All-America Scholars on Thursday, with 12 members of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team earning honors.

Due to the effects of Covid-19, the AHCA adopted revised criteria for this year's honorees. To qualify, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.6 GPA for each semester, regardless of whether the school's hockey team was able to play this season or not. Normally, a student-athlete is required to participate in a minimum of 40% of a team's games. The honor is open to any program who is a member of the AHCA. This year 450 Division III women were recognized. Earning a spot on the list for the Blugolds were:

Eden Gruber (Fr. – Wausau, WI/West)

Emily Hart (So. –Red Wing, MN)

Sydney Johnson (Fr. – Apple Valley, MN)

Stephanie Martin (Jr. – Yorktown, VA/Tabb)

Taylar Meier (Fr. – River Falls, WI/Columbine (CO))

Victoria Nelson (So. – Appleton, WI/Kimberly)

Bree Osborne (Sr. – West St. Paul, MN/Cretin Derham Hall)

Hallie Sheridan (So. – Fergus Falls, MN)

Danielle Slominski (So. – Becker, MN/Princeton)

Olivia Smallbrook (So. – Kasson, MN/Kasson-Mantorville)

Addie Young (Jr. – Superior, WI)

"We made a decision to include all hockey players who met the academic standard, whether their team was allowed to play or not," said AHCA executive director Joe Bertagna. "Those who were denied a chance to compete have already been disadvantaged and we did not want to add to their situation."

The Blugolds recorded a record of 9-3-1 in the shortened season.
