RIVER FALLS, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's ice hockey traveled to UW-River Falls on Wednesday for Game 2 of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) O'Brien Cup Finals. Box Score

The first period saw the same intensity from the prior contest. With a team-combined 29 shots on net, both defenses would be tested early. Neither side would break as the initial frame would end scoreless, but the second would see the game's first tally.

The Blugolds broke the tie just five-minutes into the period after Taylar Meier (Fr. – River Falls, WI/Columbine) scored her 5th goal of the season for a 1-0 lead. Just six-minutes later, Emma Peterson (Sr. – Superior, WI) extended the lead to two. Peterson made a move to the middle of the slot, on an uneven rush, and rifled a shot into the top corner for her 7th of the year.

Emily Hart (So. – Red Wing, MN) capped off an explosive period with a rebound goal of her own to seal the 3-0 victory.

Stephanie Martin (Yorktown, VA/Tabb) stopped all 37 shots she faced in her second shutout of the season. Martin is now 5-1-1 in her first year with UWEC.

The Blugolds will host Game 3 of the O'Brien Cup final on Friday, March 19th at Hobbs Ice Arena. Puck drop is scheduled for 7PM.
