Women's Hockey Remains Unbeaten With Road Win

SUPERIOR, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team looked to keep their four-game unbeaten streak alive on Wednesday. The Blugolds would head north to take on the UW-Superior Yellowjackets in the first game of a home and home series. After outshooting their opponents 14-1 in the opening period, Eau Claire would earn a 2-1 win and improve their record to 4-0-1.

The Blugolds have scored first in their previous three games, and the trend would continue on the road. With around seven minutes left in the first, Addie Young (Jr. - Superior, WI) buried the game's first goal to give Eau Claire the lead. Assists would be given to Abbie Delong (Fr. - Baldwin, WI/Baldwin-Woodville) and Amber Delong (Fr. - Baldwin, WI/Baldwin-Woodville) for their first points as Blugolds.

The middle frame would tilt in favor of Eau Claire again, after outshooting Superior by 13. Morgan Zirbel would score her first goal of the year to increase the lead to 2-0. Ella Ierino (Jr. - Duluth, MN) and Dehli Heikes (So. - Hermantown, MN) would earn assits on the game winning goal.

Kylah Krause (So. - Belleville, IL/East) would get her second start of the season. Krause stopped all nine of the ten shots she faced in her second victory of the season. She is now 2-0-0.

The Blugolds will be back home at Hobbs Ice Arena on Friday, February 24th. They conclude the series with the Yellowjackets with a 2PM afternoon start.
