Blugold offense shines on the road against the Jills

ASHLAND, Wis. (blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team took to the road on Wednesday, as they traveled to Northland College. After scoring just seconds into the opening frame, Eau Claire would maintain their lead and cruise to a 5-2 win.

After a week long break, the Blugolds wasted no time getting on the scoresheet. Ella Ierino (Jr. – Duluth, MN) continued her offensive presence from the blue line with her team leading fourth goal of the year just 23 seconds into the contest. Assists would be given to Taylor Treu (Sr. – Wausau, WI/West) and Samantha Scherling (So. – Rogers, MN).

The Blugold special teams would see their fair share of ice time with five powerplay chances all night. Emily Hart (So. – Red Wing, MN) would convert on the first player-advantage, assist on the third Eau Claire goal, and later score on an empty net for her first multi-point night as a Blugold. Victoria Nelson So. – Appleton, WI/Kimberly) would also score a powerplay goal to increase the team's conversion rate to 18.2%.

Stephanie Martin (Jr. – Yorktown, VA/Tabb) would stop 8 of the 10 shots she faced for her first win as a Blugold. Martin is now 1-0-1 on the season.

The Blugolds will be back home at Hobbs Ice Arena on Friday, February 19th. They will face off with Northland again and puck drop is scheduled for 7PM.
