Men's Swimming & Diving Falls to UW-Whitewater

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's swimming & diving team came up short to UW-Whitewater 134-107, as the Blugolds hosted the Warhawks at the McPhee Physical Education Center today.

The Blugolds came away with six event victories.

Nick Badilla (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./North) had a good day on the boards, winning both the one and three-meter dives. He finished the three-meter with a score of 304.65 while winning the one-meter dive with a mark of 286.95.

After more than 10 minutes swimming in the 1,000-yard freestyle, Jake McDade (Fr.-Monona, Wis./Monona Grove) grabbed a narrow victory with a time of 10:03.07 while the second place finisher from Whitewater finished with a mark of 10:03.80. McDade also won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:55.18.

Corey Groshens (Jr.-St. Louis Park, Minn./Hopkins) won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:01.30, nearly two seconds in front of the rest of the field.

In relays, the Blugolds came away from the 200-yard medley relay with a victory. The group of Aaron Lickel (So.-Madison, Wis./East), Groshens, Spencer Rose (So.-Brookfield, Wis./Central) and Alex Card (So.-Prior Lake, Minn.) won with a time of 1:39.25.

Up next, the Blugolds will compete at the WIAC Championship. The three-day championship will get underway on February 16.
