MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Three UW-Eau Claire student-athletes have been selected Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athletes of the Week, WIAC Assistant Commissioner for Media Relations Matt Stanek announced today.
Named this week were men's diver Nick Badilla (Jr.-Appleton, Wis./North), men's swimmer Alex Card (So.-Prior Lake, Minn.) and women's swimmer Nicole Dorvinen (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port).
Badilla won both the one and three-meter dives as the Blugolds beat UW-La Crosse 123-117 on Dec. 10. He captured the three-meter with a score of 324.95, while winning the one-meter with a score of 275. Both marks were national cuts.
Card helped the Blugolds to a 123-117 victory over UW-La Crosse on Dec. 10, with two individual wins, while he was also part of a winning relay team. He took the top spot in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:00.60 and followed with a top finish in the 100-yard freestyle with a mark of 48.13. He also led off the winning 800-yard freestyle team and had one of the top times in the conference this season in his 200-yard portion of the race. The Blugolds won the relay with a time of 7:17.45, almost nine seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
Dorvinen raced to a first-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle and 1,000-yard freestyle, as well as the 200-yard butterfly against UW-La Crosse on Dec. 10. She recorded a time of 2:10.63, a pool record, in the 200-yard butterfly and 5:16.36 in the 500-yard freestyle. Dorvinen won the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:44.58 with a 27 second margin of victory.
