Men's Swimming Competes at Falcon Invite

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – Ten top-10 finishes highlighted the UW-Eau Claire men's swimming team's efforts at the two-day Falcon Invitational hosted by UW-River Falls at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center this weekend.

The 400-yard freestyle relay produced the best Blugold finish of the event with a fourth-place effort. Spencer Rose (So.-Brookfield, Wis./Central), Corey Groshens (Jr.-St. Louis Park, Minn./Hopkins), Aaron Lickel (So.-Madison, Wis./East), and Alex Card (So.-Prior Lake, Minn.) combined to complete the race in just 3:12.48.

Eau Claire relay teams also nabbed three other top-10 finishes.

Card, Groshens, Alex Plaetzer (Sr.-Rochester, Minn./John Marshall) and Lickel earned eighth with a time of 1:27.96 in the 200 freestyle while Adam Rose (So.-Brookfield, Wis./Central), Groshens, Plaetzer and Jacob Gramling (Sr.-Brookfield, Wis./East) picked up eighth in the 400 medley with a 3:38.53 effort. The quartet of Spencer Rose, Card, Plaetzer and Lickel also finished eighth with a time of 1:38.15 in the 200-yard medley.

Groshens had a stand-out day individually with two top-10 efforts. He led the pack of the consolation final group for a ninth place overall effort in the 100-yard breaststroke. Groshens also finished ninth in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:18.18.

Jake McDade (Fr.-Monona, Wis./Monona Grove) led the Blugolds in the 1,650-yard freestyle race with a time of 16:56.72 for eighth place. Card and Plaetzer also scored top-10s with respective ninth place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley and the 200-yard butterfly.

Next up, the Blugolds will host UW-La Crosse on Saturday, Dec. 10 at the McPhee Physical Education Center. Competition will get underway at 1 p.m.
