Men's Swimming & Diving Takes Third at Pointer Invite

STEVENS POINT, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's swimming & diving team finished in third place at the two-day UW-Stevens Point Invitational.

UW-Stevens Point took first place with 1,271.5 points while UW-La Crosse was second with 992. UW-Eau Claire finished third with 756 and UW-Oshkosh was fourth with 287.5.

The Blugolds came away with four first-place finishes.

In the 200-yard individual medley, Alex Card (So.-Prior Lake, Minn.) won with a time of 2:00.42, a second in front of the rest of the field.

Jake McDade (Fr.-Monona, Wis./Monona Grove) won the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:51.85 while also taking the top spot in the 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:10.56, 13 seconds ahead of the second place finisher, Ben Epperly (So.-Schaumburg, Ill.).

In relays, the Blugolds' top 800-yard freestyle team won with a time of 7:16.77, almost seven seconds faster than the rest of the field.

Next Saturday, the Blugolds will be at home hosting UW-Whitewater in the final meet before the WIAC Championship. Action against UW-Whitewater will get underway at 1 p.m.
