Wittig Named WIAC Athlete of the Week

MADISON, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey player Courtney Wittig (Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) has been named Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Athlete of the Week, it was announced today by Assistant Commissioner of Media Relations Matt Stanek.

Wittig recorded a hat trick in the Blugolds’ 5-1 triumph over UW-River Falls on Feb. 9. The win moved the Blugolds into a tie for first in the WIAC standings. She scored the first two goals of the game, with the first coming at the 11:40 mark in the first period and the second on the power play at the 12:27 mark. Wittig finished her hat trick with a goal in the third and added an assist.

The Blugold women will host UW-River Falls on Feb. 16 in the last game of the regular season and for the top seed in the WIAC. The puck will drop at 2:00pm at Hobbs Ice Arena.
