Dan Schwamberger Named Midwest Region Coach of the Year

NEW ORLEANS, La. (Blugolds.com) - For the third time in the past four years, UW-Eau Claire women's cross country head coach Dan Schwamberger has been named the NCAA Division III Midwest Region Coach of the Year, U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association officials announced today.

Schwamberger, in his sixth year with the Blugolds, has guided the women's team to six straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference titles and four NCAA Division III Midwest Regional crowns. In 2009 he led the team to its first NCAA title. Prior to Schwamberger joining the Blugolds, the team won its last conference title in 1985.

Last weekend, Schwamberger helped lead the Blugolds to a first place finish at the regional meet as they accumulated 67 points, 32 better than the second place finisher. Five runners competing at the regional were named to the All-Region team as they all finished 31st or better.

The Blugolds will now compete at the national meet, which will be held this weekend (Nov. 17) in Terre Haute, Ind.
