Women's Cross Country Hosts Lake Wissota Invitational

LAKE WISSOTA, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team had eight team members finish in the top 13, out of 54 runners, at the 2012 Lake Wissota Invitational.

Leading the Blugolds was Dana Griepentrog (Jr.-Mequon, Wis./Homestead), who finished second overall with a time of 19:06. Teammate Sammy Stimac (Fr.-Antigo, Wis.) followed in third place, crossing the line at 19:16.

In fourth place was Michelle Brunshidle (Sr.-Hammond, Wis./St. Croix Central), who finished with a time of 19:34. Tori Grund (Fr.-Rosemount, Minn.) finished just two seconds later in fifth place, with a time of 19:36.

Shaina Weatherhead (Jr.-New Hope, Minn./Robbinsdale Cooper) was the next Eau Claire runner to finish, in eighth with a time of 19:38.

Amy Hart (Fr.-Sun Prairie, Wis.), Emily Holman (So.-Rochester, Minn./Century), and Rubi Rojas (Fr.-Waterloo, Wis.) rounded out the top 13 for Eau Claire in the 11th, 12th, and 13th spots, respectively. Hart and Holman finished with times of 19:45 and 19:45, while Rojas crossed just a second later at 19:46.

The Blugolds will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 27 at UW-Platteville, where they will be competing in the WIAC Championship. Races begin at 1 p.m.
