Mauer and Schoenfelder Selected to Academic All-District Team

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire women's track & field and cross country members Erin Schoenfelder (Sr.-Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) and Ashlyn Mauer (Sr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) have been selected to the Capital One Academic All-District Six Track/Cross Country First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

A senior from Sheboygan Falls, Wis., Mauer boasts a 3.97 grade point average and is majoring in communication science and disorders.  She was a second team selection in 2011.

Schoenfelder, a senior from Antioch, Ill. (Community), is majoring in elementary education and owns a 3.98 grade point average.

Mauer won the 2013 outdoor WIAC title in the 3,000-meter steeplechase while also winning the same event in 2011. During the 2011 WIAC Indoor Championship, she won the 5,000-meter run title. A two-time All-American, Mauer took fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at outdoor nationals this season while she took sixth place last fall at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championship to earn All-American honors, leading the team to a fifth place finish.

Schoenfelder secured the WIAC title in the 100-meter hurdles at the conference championship this season and placed third in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles. She won the 400-meter intermediate hurdles in 2011 after finishing second in 2010. Schoenfelder is a five-time All-American, winning three awards in indoor competition and two at outdoor nationals. At the 2013 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship, she earned the NCAA's Elite 89 award.

In order to be eligible for the Academic All-America® program, nominees must: be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials; have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale) in both undergrad and graduate work; have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at the institution and completed at least one calendar year at the institution; have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games; and be nominated by the school's sports information director.
