Women's Cross Country Wins 2012 Roy Griak Invitational

SAINT PAUL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The 13th-ranked UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team took the top spot out of 29 teams at the 2012 Roy Griak Invitational at Les Bolstad Golf Course today.

The Blugolds, who also won the invite a season ago, finished with 95 points. Wartburg College (Iowa) was second with 108 while St. Olaf College (Minn.) was third with 116.

Ashlyn Mauer (Sr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) had a second-place finish in the 408-runner field, completing the 6,000-meter course with a time of 22:03.20.

Two other Blugolds came in 15th place or higher. Steph Sjostrom (Sr.-Champlin, Minn./Park) found her way to an 11th place finish with a time of 22:50.85 while Madi Sawyer (Jr.-Champlin, Minn./Park) crossed the line with a time of 23:06.50 to finish in 15th place.

The Blugolds will have next weekend off and will next be in action at the Brooks Invitational at UW-Oshkosh on Oct. 13. Action will get underway at 11:15 a.m.
