Mauer Leads Women's Cross Country at Blugold Invite

COLFAX, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Ashlyn Mauer (Sr.-Sheboygan Falls, Wis.) led the UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team to a second place finish out of the 17 teams at the 2012 Blugold Invitational at Whitetail Golf Course today.

Mauer took the top spot out of 266 runners with a time of 21:42.32, more than five seconds in front of the second place finisher on the 6,000-meter course.

Two other Blugolds finished in the top 10 as Madi Sawyer (Jr.-Champlin, Minn./Park) was fourth with a time of 21:52.52 while Steph Sjostrom (Sr.-Champlin, Minn./Park) was sixth with a time of 22:01.58.

As a team, the Blugolds finished with 62 points to claim second place. NCAA Division I University of Minnesota took first with 34 points while Winona State (Minn.) was third with 79.

A season ago, the Blugolds took third at the invite.

Next Friday some Blugolds will be at the St. Mary's University Invitational while others will compete at the Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota on Saturday.
