STEVENS POINT, WIS. (Blugolds.com) - The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team needed a win to get back on track and did just that Saturday afternoon after defeating the University of Wisconsin-Steven's Point 1-0 at the Point Bowl.

Box Score

Eau Claire came into the game on a rough patch losing three in a row including two conference matches.

In the first half, the Blugolds, led by senior Tara Dennehy (Sr.-Eugene, OR/Churchill), came out firing. Dennehy had two of her four shots on the day in the first ten minutes of the match. It looked like only a matter of time before Eau Claire would add a goal. Eau Claire would take two more shots in the half, but were unable to knock in a goal.

In the second half, Steven's Point was fired up and quickly was able to go on the attack, but the Blugold defense prevailed. On her fourth shot, Dennehy knocked in the game's only goal.

The Blugold defense was the story of the game only allowing four shots on the day, with only one of them being on target. Goalies Emily Byal (Jr.-Eagle, WI/Palmyra Eagle) and Sammie Lefavie (So. -Coon Rapids, MN) combined for the clean sheet.

Eau Claire (4-7-3) (3-2 WIAC) will return home on Wednesday, October 21, to take on St. Thomas University, (Minn.) at 4:00 p.m.
