Soccer Earns Another Shutout, Defeats UW-Stout 2-0

Menomonie, Wis. (Blugolds.com)-The University of Wisconsin- Eau Claire women's soccer team recorded their third straight shutout on their way to a 2-0 victory over the University of Wisconsin- Stout Wednesday night at Nelson Field.

The Blugolds have found their grove, winning three of the last four games. The win was big in a number of ways. After the victory Eau Claire moves to (3-4-3) on the year and gives them a (2-0) record in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play. It also knocks down Stout to (6-2-2) (2-1 WIAC) on the year. Eau Claire handed Stout two losses last year after identical 1-0 wins and added their third straight win over the Blue devils moving the all-time record to an impressive 20-3-2 in favor of Eau Claire. Finally, the win pushes head coach Sean Yengo past the century mark with his 101st conference victory.

The Blugolds struck in the 21st minute after Tara Dennehy (Sr.-Eugene, OR/Churchill) knocked one in from an assist by Jocelyn Etten (Jr.-Elkhorn, WI/Elkhorn Area). Just before half time, Eva Charlesworth-Seiler (Fr.-Golden Valley, MN/ Hopkins) added the insurance goal and the game's final goal. Goalie Sammie Lefaive (So. -Coon Rapids, MN) recorded another clean sheet and made five saves in the game.

Eau Claire returns home on Saturday afternoon to take the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse. The game will be televised on Charter 993 and UWEC TV 10. It will also be Alumni Appreciation Day, with special recognition of the 10-year anniversary of the Blugolds' first WIAC Championship in 2005. Kickoff slated for 3:00 p.m. at Bollinger Field.
