EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com)-The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire tallied another WIAC conference win and secured a opening round home playoff game on Tuesday, following a 3-1 victory against the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, Saturday afternoon at Bollinger Field.

The Blugolds were ready to play in this match. It was senior day for Eau Claire, honoring seniors Tara Dennehy (Sr.-Eugene, OR/Churchill), Megan Hanson (Sr.-Verona, WI/Verona Area), Caroline Henderson (Sr.-Duluth, MN/East), Ashley O'Connell (Sr.-Appleton, WI/East), and Ashley Seymour (Sr.-Verona, WI/Verona Area),. The seniors for the Blugolds shined in this one.

As soon as the game started, the Blugold attack was on. The Pioneers were not able to hold on for very long. Just under the two-minute mark, Seymour added a goal. The Blugolds were not content with just one. Eau Claire fired a total of fifteen shots in the first half, with eight being on goal. The Pioneers were able to withstand the fierce attack of the Blugolds. At the 19-minute mark, the Pioneers were awarded a corner kick. The result was a ball perfectly placed at the feet of a Pioneer player right in front of the net, which was promptly kicked in for the equalizer.

In the second half, Eau Claire kept at it. Just four minutes into the second half, Dennehy put the Blugolds back on top. Eau Claire quickly added an insurance goal, after a large scrum of players in front of the Pioneers net resulted in a goal for Hanson.

The Blugolds kept the Pioneers defense on their heals all day long, firing 28 total shots on the day. Eau Claire's defense was strong as well only allowing eight shots from the Pioneers.

Up next for Eau Claire is the WIAC playoffs. They will begin their post-season at home on Tuesday at 2 p.m. and their opponent yet to be determined.
