Soccer Falls for Second Straight Time

ST. PAUL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team fell for the second game in a row, dropping a contest 2-0 against Macalester College (Minn.) tonight.

The Blugolds, who came into the game winning three straight against the Scots, fell for the first time since 2006. Macalester leads the all-time series 9-4-1.

In tonight's game, Eau Claire outshot Macalester 20-15 but the teams were nearly even with shot-on-goal attempts as the Blugolds finished with seven to the Scot's six. The Blugolds have outshot opponents in 13 games this season, but this was their first loss that came after finishing with more shots.

Rachel Nerison (Jr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) led the Blugolds with a season-high nine shots, two of which were on-goal.

Amanda Hakala (So.-Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) played 90 minutes in-goal for the Blugolds and stopped four shots while allowing two goals. The Scots scored one goal in the first half and one in the second.

Eau Claire drops to 11-4-1 on the season while Macalester improves to 10-5.

The Blugolds will try to get back on track with a home contest against WIAC opponent UW-Whitewater on Saturday. The Blugolds are 5-0-1 in WIAC play this season and are 18-2-2 all-time against the Warhawks. Saturday's game will get underway at 2 p.m.
