Blugold Soccer Conquered by Carleton College

NORTHFIELD, Minn. (Blugolds.com) - The 23rd-ranked UW-Eau Claire soccer team sputtered this afternoon and was left scoreless for the first time in 12 matches in a 2-0 loss delivered by Carleton College (Minn.).

The Knights kicked off the scoring at the 20:29 minute mark by nailing a shot into the upper corner of the Blugold net to go up 1-0. While the teams limited each other's shots in the second period, the Knights took advantage of a penalty opportunity with just over seven minutes to go in the game. The Carleton player drilled the shot into the top of the net to increase the Blugold deficit to two scores.

The Blugolds nearly matched Carleton's total of 11 shots, trailing only by one after taking seven shots in the first period and just three in the second. Paige LeGate (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) took three of Eau Claire's six shots on goal, but the Blugolds were denied any score for the first time since a 1-0 loss to Washington University on Sept. 5.

Amanda Hakala (So.-Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) guarded the Blugold goal the entire 90 minutes and was credited with three saves on the day.

The Blugolds fall to 11-3-1 on the season. The team's next opportunity will be a match against Macalester College (Minn.) at 7:30 p.m. this Tuesday in St. Paul, Minn.
