Soccer Rolls Over Stout to Sixth Straight Victory

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team remains undefeated in conference play and now has a six game winning streak after recording a dominating 4-1 victory over rival UW-Stout today at Bollinger Fields.

The game started slowly, with neither team taking shots until after the 10 minute mark. But the pace picked up, and the Blugolds were first on the board when Allie Stone (Fr.-Madison, Wis./Verona Area), assisted by Kara Ryan (Fr.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong), found the back of the net at the 29:55 minute mark to put the Blugolds up 1-0.

Just over eight minutes later, the Blugolds struck again when a shot by Eva Popp (Fr.-Wauwatosa, Wis./West) deflected off a Blue Devil opponent and into the net, giving Popp her first goal of the season.

Seconds before the end of the first period, Stout managed to score and bring the game to within one goal. But the second half belonged to the Blugolds.

At the 55:36 mark, Paige LeGate (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port), with help from Rachel Nerison (Jr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) scored to push the Blugolds ahead by two. An unassisted goal by Ali Mater (Sr.-Elm Grove, Wis./Brookfield East) – also her first of the season – at the 77:25 mark sealed the 4-1 victory for the Blugolds.

Goalie Amanda Hakala (So.-Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) played all 90 minutes and made three of the Blugolds' four saves of the game. The Blugolds also outshot the Blue Devils, taking 28 shots to Stout's eight.

With the victory, Eau Claire improves to 7-2 overall and a perfect 3-0 in the WIAC. Stout falls to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The victory also improves the Blugolds to an all-time record of 16-2-2 over the Blue Devils.

Next up, the Blugolds have a matchup against another conference opponent. Eau Claire will travel to play UW-River Falls at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
