Soccer Pushes Win Streak to Eight with 1-0 Victory over Luther

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - The UW-Eau Claire soccer team pushed its win streak to eight games today with a 1-0 victory over Luther College (Iowa) at the Bollinger Fields.

While the game started slow with the teams splitting time on either end of field, the Blugolds scored at 32:02 to take a 1-0 lead. Jamie Schiesel (Sr.-Plymouth, Minn./Armstrong) scored the goal, her first of the season, on an assist from Brittany Burant (Jr.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH).

The teams played fairly even the entire match but the Blugolds managed to outshoot the Norse 17-6. The Blugolds took six shots in the first half and 11 in the second, 13 of which were on-target.

Amanda Hakala (So.-Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) played the entire game at goalkeeper for Eau Claire and finished with three saves while her counterpart from Luther was also in the game 90 minutes and stopped 12 shots.

The win was the fifth shutout victory of the season for Eau Claire. The Blugolds improve to 9-2 on the season with their last loss coming on September 5 while Luther drops to 4-4-1. In the all-time series, Eau Claire improves its record to 7-4-1 against the Norse.

The Blugolds will be back at home Wednesday to face Augsburg College (Minn.). So far this season, Eau Claire holds a 4-0 record against Minnesota schools. Action will get underway at 4 p.m. at Bollinger.
