Blugold Soccer Victorious Over River Falls

RIVER FALLS, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Continuing its recent success, the UW-Eau Claire soccer team beat UW-River Falls 2-1 this afternoon and scored its seventh consecutive win.

The Blugolds came out firing, and the team went up 1-0 less than two minutes into the game thanks to an Allie Stone (Fr.-Madison, Wis./Verona Area) goal assisted by Sam Gilbert (So.-Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul) and Paige LeGate (Fr.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port). Though still taking many shots, Eau Claire didn't connect for another goal until the second period. At the 55:45 mark, Rachel Nerison (Jr.-Maple Grove, Minn.), with help from Kara Ryan (Fr.-Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong), found the back of the net to give the Blugolds the two-point advantage.

River Falls got on the board with a goal midway through the second period, but failed to score again. The Blugolds held on to grab the 2-1 victory and extend the team's winning streak to seven.

In total, the Blugolds took 11 shots in each period to outshoot the Falcons 22-7. Goalie Amanda Hakala (So.-Stillwater, Minn./Stillwater Area) played all 90 minutes of the game and made three saves en route to the victory.

The Blugolds now improve to 8-2 overall and are a perfect 4-0 in the conference. The Falcons drop to 7-4 and an even 2-2 in WIAC play. Eau Claire has been historically strong against the Falcons, as the team now has a 20-5-1 all-time record against River Falls.
