SUPERIOR, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The No. 8 ranked University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey was back on the road Saturday night as they continued Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play, facing off with the UW-Superior Yellowjackets.

Box Score

As both sides looked for their fourth win of the year, UW-Eau Claire was the first to strike as Sami Scherling (Sr. – Rogers, Minn.) ripped a slap shot from the slot into the back of the net in the closing minutes of the first period for a 1-0 UWEC lead. Eau Claire kept their pressure constant as they outshot UWS 14-4 after the opening frame.

In the second, both teams went back and forth battling in each end, looking to gain ground on the other. With 4:58 left on the clock, Eden Gruber (Jr. – Wausau, Wis./West) made a move from behind the goal line to the front of the net and fired a back handed shot past the goaltender to extend the Blugold lead to 2-0.

Eau Claire's power play saw plenty of ice time as Superior committed six penalties during the game. Sophie Rausch (Sr. – Fergus Falls, Minn.) recorded the lone power play goal for the Blugolds with a shot from the slot to extend the lead to 3-0. Emily Hart (Sr. – Red Wing, Minn.) received the lone assist on the final tally of the night.

Stephanie Martin (Sr. – Yorktown, Va./Tabb) stopped all ten shots she faced to earn her second shutout of the season. Martin is now 5-0-0 on the year.

The Blugolds (5-1, WIAC 0-0) will have a quick turnaround as they travel to Mankato, Minn. On Monday, November 14th for an exhibition game against Minnesota State Mankato at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7PM.
