EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) — The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's hockey team hosted its first home game of the 2022-23 season against Concordia Wisconsin on Tuesday at Hobbs Ice Arena. The Blugolds fell to the Falcons in a tough battle 4-3.
The Blugold suffered their first loss of the season in a tight offensive match against Concordia Wisconsin. Eau Claire couldn't overcome the Falcons in the last minutes of the game.
Concordia was first on the board scoring at the 13-minute mark. The Blugolds answered back in the second period at 14:56 with a goal scored by Sophie Rausch (Sr. - Fergus Falls, Minn.) assisted by Hallie Sheridan (Sr. - Fergus Falls, Minn.) and Keira Bolt (Fr. - Boise, Id.). Shortly after, Rausch found the back of the net again putting the Blugolds up 2-1.
The Falcons tied the game in the 10th minute 2-2. It did not take long for the Blugolds to find the lead again with a goal scored by Sheridan in the 15th minute. The game would once again be tied in the third period 3-3 while the two teams battled for possession.
It would not be until the last minutes of the game the Concordia would score to win the game 4-3.
The Blugolds now move to 2-1 in the non-conference schedule. The team will host Saint Mary's on Saturday, November 5, with a 2:00 p.m. start time.
