Women's Gymnastics Wins Home Invite

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – While the UW-Eau Claire women's gymnastics team trailed Winona State (Minn.) headed into the final rotation, a strong performance in the floor exercise helped the Blugolds win the four-team UW-Eau Claire Invitational at the McPhee Physical Education Center tonight.

Eau Claire won with a score of 180.750 while Winona took second with 178.000. Hamline University (Minn.) was third with 173.125 and Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.) finished fourth with 168.800. The last time the Blugolds won the UW-Eau Claire Invite was in 2005. A season ago they finished in third place.

Two Blugolds found their way to wins in individual events.

Danielle Schulzetenberg (Jr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) was first on the balance beam with a score of 9.400 while Rachel Behmer (Jr.-Maple Grove, Minn./West Lutheran) took first on the uneven bars with a mark of 9.250.

On the vault, Schulzetenberg was second with a score of 9.450, and she also came in second in the floor exercise with a score of 9.375.

In the all-around competition, Olivia Aschenbrenner (So.-Cedarburg, Wis./Grafton) took second with a score of 35.825.

The Blugolds will take a couple weeks off and will next be in action on January 31 at UW-Stout. Events will get underway at 6 p.m.
