McCamey Leads Gymnasts with National Title on Final Day at Nationals

BROCKPORT, N.Y. (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire gymnast Michaela McCamey (So.-Dayton, Ohio) captured a national title on the balance beam to lead the Blugolds on the final day of the 2012 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championships today.

McCamey became just the fourth Blugold in school history and first since 2006 to win a national title. She tied a career-high 9.575 on the balance beam to win. McCamey also claimed first team All-American status with the win.

In the floor exercise, Danielle Schulzetenberg (Jr.-Maple Grove, Minn.) claimed first team All-American honors as she tied for third with a season-high score of 9.650. Olivia Aschenbrenner (So.-Cedarburg, Wis./Grafton) earned second team All-American recognition as she took eighth on the uneven bars with a score of 9.200.

Schulzetenberg is now a six-time All-American while Aschenbrenner is a five-time All-American. McCamey earned her first All-American honor today.

Three Blugolds were also named to the NCGA All-Academic Team at the conclusion of the championship. They were Lanai Peer (Jr.-Prior Lake, Minn.), Ashley Relopez (Jr.-New Hope, Minn./Armstrong) and Diana Eisenberg (Sr.-Green Bay, Wis./Notre Dame Academy).
