Eau Claire, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The No. 2 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire men's hockey team hosted the UW-Stout Blue Devils on Friday evening in their tenth Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game of the season. After trailing for most of the game, the Blugolds persevere and win it 5-4 in overtime.

Box Score

Eau Claire was forced into an unfamiliar spot early on in the first two periods. After trailing in the beginning moments of the contest, Jake Bresser (Sr. – Eau Claire, WI/Memorial) would score his first goal of the night on a breakaway at the 8-minute mark of the 1st period. This would be the first of multiple points for Bresser, who finished with three goals and two assists, and extended his team lead in points to 26.

After relinquishing back-to-back goals to the Blue Devils, the Blugolds would cut the deficit to just one after Andrew McGlynn (So. – St. Louis, MO/Christian Brothers College) would knock home a rebound in front of the Stout goal in the final two minutes of the second period to give Hobbs Ice Center some light.

In the third, Bresser would tie things up twice for Eau Claire to keep the home team in the matchup. The first would come on a stretch pass from his own zone and he would capitalize, beating the Stout goalie over the glove to make it 3-3. His final, and third goal of the night, would come with just 48 seconds remaining to force overtime.

In overtime, the Blugolds would hold the momentum not allowing a single shot on net. Cole Paskus (Jr. – Madison, WI/West) would receive a drop pass after entering the zone, take it to the net, and slide it under the Blue Devil goalie to win it for Eau Claire.

Goaltender Zach Dyment (Jr. – Abbotsford, BC/Yale Secondary) would stop 18 of the 22 shots he faced and has increased his overall record to 12-2-2.

The Blugolds will back in action on Saturday, February 1st at Hobbs Ice Center when they take on UW-Stout for the final time in the regular season. The team will be celebrating Alumni Night and the puck is scheduled to drop at 7PM.
