EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – UW-Eau Claire head men's golf coach Jim Maguire has stepped down to pursue another job opportunity, Director of Athletics Scott Kilgallon announced today. Former Blugold All-American and assistant coach Mike Greer has been appointed the Blugolds' new head coach.
"I would like to thank Coach Maguire for all of his efforts leading our men's golf program over the last six years," Kilgallon said. "We wish Jim and his family all the best as he moves forward with his career."
Maguire guided the Blugolds to four NCAA Championship appearances over the last four years. The team's best finish came during the 2006-07 season when it took ninth. Last year, Eau Claire finished 13th at nationals. Maguire coached three All-Americans and was named the 2011 Golf Coaches Association of America, Eaton Golf Pride Region Coach of the Year.
Greer, who competed under Maguire for two seasons, was a four-year letterwinner for the Blugolds from 2003-04 to 2006-07. He earned All-American honorable mention recognition in 2004. Greer was also named to the PING All-Central Region Team in 2007 and earned Co-Most Valuable Golfer honors for the team that season. Prior to being named head coach, Greer served as a Blugold assistant coach.
"We are excited to have Coach Greer take over and know his experience as a former player and assistant will help the Blugolds compete at a high level," Kilgallon said.
"I couldn't be more excited about the opportunity to coach a program that has meant so much to me," Greer said. "I have worked with this group of players for the past year as assistant coach and know how dedicated they are to achieving success. I look forward to joining the UWEC coaching staff as a head coach."
