Men's Golf Takes Fifth at Saint John's Invite

SARTELL, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team moved up two spots today to finish in fifth place out of 21 teams at the 2011 Saint John's Fall Invitational at Blackberry Ridge Golf Course.

The Blugolds improved 13 strokes over day one to finish with a two-day total of 625 strokes. The University of Manitoba (Canada) won the event with 611 strokes while Saint John's University (Minn.) took second with 612.

With 149 strokes, Concordia-Moorhead's Pat Deitz took home medalist honors in the 115-golfer field.

Jamie Krula (Sr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) finished with eight fewer strokes than he had yesterday and totaled 154 for the tournament to lead the Blugolds. He finished tied for 10th overall.

Tim McCormick (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Memorial) had 156 strokes (tie-22nd) while Jimmy Hutchings (Sr.-Hudson, Wis.) finished with 157 (tie-25th).

Tying for 40th place with 160 strokes was Jake Brookshaw (Sr.-River Falls, Wis.) and Sean Murphy (Fr.-Middleton, Wis.) recorded 162 to tie for 47th.

Next week, a group of Blugolds will head to Florida for the three-day Gordin Classic/Fall Preview while another group will stay back in Eau Claire to host the Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Collegiate Invite.
