Men's Golf Moves up Two Spots on Final Day of Invite

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire men's golf team moved up two spots from yesterday to finish in 16th place at the 2011 Gordin Collegiate Classic at Mission Inn Resort.

Methodist University (N.C.) won the three-day tournament with 889 strokes, leading the 18-team field by 14 strokes. The Blugolds finished with 937 strokes.

Guilford College's Noah Ratner won the classic with 213 strokes (three under par) out of 92 golfers.

Tim McCormick (Jr.-Madison, Wis./Memorial) led the Blugolds with 232 strokes, tied for 36th overall.

Jimmy Hutchings (Sr.-Hudson, Wis.) tied for 53rd with 236 strokes while Jamie Krula (Sr.-Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chi-Hi) had 238 to tie for 69th.

Also competing for the Blugolds were Ben Brooks (So.-Beaver Dam, Wis.), who finished tied for 72nd with 239 strokes, and Sean Murphy (Fr.-Middleton, Wis.), who had 243 to tie for 81st.

This past weekend a group of Blugolds also hosted the 2011 Frank Wrigglesworth Blugold Collegiate Invitational at Eau Claire Golf and Country Club. Eau Claire finished in fifth place and Jake Brookshaw (Sr.-River Falls, Wis.) led the team with 150 strokes to tie for sixth.

Next weekend the Blugolds will be at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Fall Invitational. The two-day tournament will get underway Sunday, October 2.
