WINNECONNE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) - Running without top athlete Lucy Ramquist (Jr.-River Falls, Wis.), the UW-Eau Claire women's cross country team stumbled to a 20th-place finish Saturday at the UW-Oshkosh AAE Invitational at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Winneconne.
The Blugolds were without a frontrunner, and a strong pack in the middle wasn't quite enough to sneak up in placement.
Kelsey Jaeger (So.-Waukesha, Wis./West) finished 78th in a time of 22:41 over the course of 6,000 meters to lead the team. Clara Williamson (Skokie, Ill./Niles North) was the only other runner to finish within the top 100 as she came in 89th in a time of 25:51.
Steph Dunlavy (Sr.-Colby, Wis.), Katryna Williams (Jr.-Watertown, Wis.) and Monica Emerson (Sr.-Somerset, Wis.) finished within 12 places of one another to round out the scoring.
Dunlavy came in 125th place in 23:08, Williams crossed the line in 139th in 23:15 and Emerson finished 141st in 23:17.
Up next, some of the Blugolds will compete at the UW-Eau Claire City Wells Invitational Friday at 4 p.m. The rest of the varsity lineup will rest up before the WIAC Championship on Nov. 1, hosted by UW-La Crosse.
