Women's Outdoor Track & Field Competes at Two Meets

WINONA, Minn. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's outdoor track & field team competed at two meets this weekend, the Saint Mary's University Open and the Drake Relays, and came away with a number of top finishes.

A majority of the team competed at Saint Mary's and the Blugolds earned five wins and had a number of other strong finishes.

Steph Sjostrom (Jr.-Champlin, Minn./Champlin Park) secured a victory in the 1,500-meter run, finishing with a time of 4:41.48, eight seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

In the 100-meter dash, Kayla Kelsey (Fr.-Sparta, Wis.) won with a time of 13.07 seconds, edging the second place finisher, who came in with a time of 13.08 seconds.

Winning the 400-meter hurdles was Erin Schoenfelder (Jr.-Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community), who finished with a time of 1:05.70.

In the field, Julia Baranek (Sr.-Port Washington, Wis.) took first in the high jump with a mark of 1.62 meters (5-3.75).

The relay team of Delaney Doyle (Fr.-Sun Prairie, Wis.), Brooke Patterson (Fr.-Sussex, Wis./Hamilton), Kelsey and Calla Karl (Fr.-Frederic, Wis.) won the 4x400 event.

At the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, the Blugolds competed in both the 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay preliminaries but didn't advance to the finals in either event. They finished 11th in the 4x100 and 14th in the 4x400.

Next up is the WIAC Championship, which will be contest May 4-5 at UW-Whitewater.
