EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – Forced to play indoors due to inclement weather, the UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team hosted their first home event of the season sweeping UW-Stevens Point 9-0 here today in the Olson Addition of the McPhee Physical Education Center.
With the win Eau Claire improves to 5-1 in dual matches and 3-1 in WIAC action. Stevens Point falls to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in WIAC dual play.
The Blugolds won all six singles matches in straight sets. Maddie Johnson (Sr.-Lakeville, MN/South) defeated Katelyn Asfeld at No. 1 singles 7-5, 6-3. At No. 2 singles Colleen McCullough (Jr.-Maple Grove, MN/Osseo) beat Hayley Schlueter 6-0, 6-2. Nicole Pothen (Sr.-Centerville, MN/Centennial) won her match at No. 3 singles over Rosie Buckley 6-3, 6-4. No. 4 singles saw Madison Rossebo (Sr.-Minnetonka, MN) down Erin Lemmer 6-1, 6-2. Paige Kuepers (Jr.-Green Bay, WI/Southwest) defeated Molly Hendries 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles and Sarah Henderson (Fr.-Prior Lake, MN) concluded singles play at No. 6 play with a victory over Hannah Dexheimer 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles play the team of Johnson/Rossebo defeated Asfeld/Schlueter at No. 1 doubles 8-1. At No. 2 doubles Pothen/Kuepers earned a victory over Hendries/Kaylee Roberts 8-2 and McCullough/Henderson won over Buckley/Dexheimer at No. 3 doubles 8-3.
The Blugolds return to action tomorrow when they host UW-Oshkosh in another WIAC dual. Starting time is scheduled for 9 a.m.
