WHITEWATER, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's tennis team earned three top-three finishes today at the UW-Whitewater Tournament hosted on the UW-Whitewater campus.
At No. 2 doubles the team of Colleen McCullough (Jr.-Maple Grove, MN) and Sarah Henderson (Fr.-Prior Lake, MN) advanced to the championship match to take second place after falling to Ashley Miller and Rachel Siemon of UW-Whitewater in a tightly contested match 8-9 (7). McCullough and Henderson defeated Jenny Graham and Ali Bublitz of UW-La Crosse 9-7 and Maggie Bolton and Llora Waldman of UW-Oshkosh 8-3 en route to the finals.
Maddie Johnson (Sr.-Lakeville, MN/South) finished in third place winning two of three matches at No. 1 singles. After defeating Brianna Theobald of UW-Oshkosh 6-0, 6-0, Johnson would fall to Shirlene Luk of Grinnell 4-6, 3-6. Johnson defeated Bryanne Blanton of UW-La Crosse in the third place match 7-6 (4), 6-4.
Olivia Gallagher (So.-Lodi, WI) won two of her three matches taking third place in No. 3 singles. After defeating Rachel Wabas of UW-La Crosse 7-5, 6-3, Gallagher would fall to Alex Talyansky of UW-Whitewater 0-6, 1-6. In the third place match, Gallagher went on to defeat Briannah Wilson of Grinnell 8-3.
The Blugolds travel to Green Bay, Wisconsin next weekend when they open action against Elmhurst College on Friday, September 5 at 7:00 p.m.
