EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (blugolds.com) – The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women's soccer team hosted the UW- Stout Blue Devils Wednesday night, putting another win in the books with a final score of 2-1.
It only took the Blugolds 15 minutes to get on the board. Off a corner kick from Hannah Schaetzel (Sr. – Germantown, WI) who is credited with the assist, Ava Quick (Jr. – Lakeville, MN) waited patiently at the back post for her moment to strike and drilled one into the net.
Later in the half, in the 25th minute, the Blugolds were awarded a penalty kick and Anna Kautzman (Sr. – Champlin, MN) rose to the occasion. With a rebound off of her initial shot, she came back and took another hit to put one behind the Stout keeper. This second goal would be the one that secured the win.
Throughout the entire match the Blugolds not only dominated possession, but also ran up double the numbers over Stout in shots (14-7), corner kicks (8-4), and fouls (12-6).
Anna Sveiven (Sr. – Blaine, MN) saved 5 of the 6 shots she faced and now holds a record of 2-4-1 on the season.
The Blugolds will be back at home again Saturday for their homecoming game looking for a win against UW- Whitewater. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
