Soccer Ends Streak with Loss to Oshkosh

OSHKOSH, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire soccer team fell 3-1 to UW-Oshkosh this afternoon, dropping a match to the Titans for the first time in the teams' last 11 meetings.

Eau Claire hadn't lost to Oshkosh since a 2-1 defeat Oct. 1, 2004. The Titans wasted no time in taking control of today's match. Oshkosh made its first goal less than four minutes into the game and had jumped out to a 3-0 lead by the 36th minute.

The Blugolds didn't find the back of the net until the second period. Rachel Nerison (Sr.- Maple Grove, Minn.) knocked in a header at 45:40 for her fourth goal of the season. Brittany Burant (Sr.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) assisted on the goal. Despite outshooting the Titans 20-12, the Blugolds didn't tally any additional goals, dropping the match 3-1.

Nina Behrenbrinker (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) tended the Eau Claire goal for the entire 90 minutes. She made three saves each period for a total of six on the afternoon.

The loss drops the Blugolds to 4-3-1 overall and 1-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Oshkosh improves to 5-2 on the year and an undefeated 2-0 in conference play.

The Blugolds will travel to Iowa tomorrow to take on Luther College (Iowa). The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
