EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) – The UW-Eau Claire women's soccer team defeated UW-Superior 5-0 in the Blugolds' home and conference opener at the Bollinger Fields today.
The Blugolds (4-1) scored three goals in the opening half and followed with two in the second half.
Brittany Burant (Sr.-Stevens Point, Wis./SPASH) and Paige LeGate (So.-Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port) each scored two goals.
Burant scored at 6:36 in the first half, unassisted, and the goal proved to be the game-winner.
Teighlor Tvedt (Fr.-Verona, Wis./Verona Area) pushed the Blugolds' lead to two with a score a 34:35 on an assist from LeGate. In the closing minutes of the first half, LeGate scored the Blugolds' third goal on a penalty kick.
In the second half, Burant again found the back of the net at 52:57 while LeGate scored again at 80:53 with an assist from Eva Popp (So.-Wauwatosa, Wis./West).
The Blugolds dominated the shot chart with 26, including 13 on-goal, while the Yellowjackets finished with two shots, neither on-goal.
Nina Behrenbrinker (So.-St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) started at goalkeeper and played the first 70:50 to pick up the win. Joan Mattheisen (Fr.-St. Cloud, Minn./Apollo) saw her first action of the season in-goal for the final 19:10.
Eau Claire is now 20-0 all-time against Superior and has shutout the Yellowjackets 13 straight times.
The Blugolds will be on the road again this weekend for a conference game against UW-Stevens Point. Action will get underway at 1 p.m. Saturday.
