HANCOCK, Mich. (Blugolds.com) — The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team scored a goal in each period and shutout Finlandia College (Mich.) the rest of the way to pick up the 3-0 win.
Dani Kerr (Sr.-Little Canada, Minn./ Roseville) got the Blugolds (8-11-4, 7-8-3) on the board with under a minute to play in the first period. Tory Heller (Fr.-Cottage Grover, Minn./Hill Murray School) assisted on the goal.
In the second period, the Blugolds wasted little time, as Amanda Kane (So.-Maplewood, Minn./North St. Paul) scored at 2:42 on assists by Julia Osowski (Fr.-Princeton, Minn./Princeton) and Nikki Kothenbeutel (Jr.-Sauk Rapids, Minn./Sauk Rapids-Rice).
The Blugolds picked up an insurance goal at 13:49 of the third period when Stephanie Hatcher (Jr.-Burnsville, Minn./Lakeville North) scored an unassisted goal to put the game on ice.
Kim Van Brunt (Fr.-Eagle River, Wis./Northland Pines) made 13 saves on 13 shots to pick up the shutout. The Blugolds outshot the Lions 43-13. Neither team was able to score on the power-play, as the Lions were 0-for-4 while the Blugolds went 0-for-6.
The Blugolds will be home next weekend for the final series of the regular season. They will take on Concordia (Wis.) Friday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. and again on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Center.
