Turner Finishes with 31 Saves, but Blugolds Fall to Bulldogs

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (Blugolds.com) — The UW-Eau Claire women's hockey team could not find the back of the net when they desperately needed too. They held Adrian College (Mich.) to just one goal, but they could not bury one of their own, as they fell 1-0 in the NCHA matchup.

Paige Turner (Fr.-Iron River, Wis./Duluth East) was impressive in her fourth-straight game in net for the Blugolds. She made several breakaway saves and kept the Blugolds within striking distance all night.

The lone goal came on a Bulldog power-play in the second period. An Adrian College forward put a perfect deflection on a shot from the point that went top shelf over Turner's shoulder.

Despite the goal in the second period, it was Turner's best period as she kicked away 14 shots. She made several key saves in the third period as well, giving the Blugolds a chance to tie it up all the way to the end.

With 1:15 left in the third period, the Blugolds pulled Turner for the extra attacker. They held play in the offensive zone for a majority of the remaining time, but just could not bury the tying goal.

Turner finished with 31 saves on 32 shots, while the Blugolds finished with 21 shots on goal. Each team finished with just four penalties in a relatively even matchup.

The loss was the second in a row for UW-Eau Claire after picking up their first win of the season last Friday night against UW-Superior. They will try to get the offense going Saturday night as they take on Adrian College again at 7 p.m. at Hobbs Ice Center.
