Lau & Schwamberger earn USTFCCCA Regional honors

NEW ORLEANS (blugolds.com) – Regional Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2017 NCAA Division III Cross Country season were announced Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), as voted on by member coaches from that division.

Darin Lau (Sr. – Eau Claire, WI/Immanuel Lutheran) took top individual honors on the men's side as he was named the Midwest Region's Athlete of the Year. Lau won the regional title in 23:21.5, breaking the school record. This season the senior won four individual titles, including the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship.

In addition, Head Coach Dan Schwamberger was named Midwest Region Coach of the Year for the women after the Blugolds won the regional championship with 59 points. The Blugolds also won the WIAC title and are currently ranked No. 4 in the country.

Both the men's and women's teams will compete in the NCAA Championship meet Saturday in Elsah, Ill., hosted by Principia College.
