Cross Country teams earn USTFCCCA academic honors

NEW ORLEANS (Blugolds.com) – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Scholar Teams of the Year for the 2016 cross country season, with both Blugold squads making the list.

For a team to be considered for this distinction, it must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Meet. The team must also have a minimum team GPA of 3.10 on a 4.0 scale.

The men's team took second at the NCAA Regional and were third at the NCAA National Championships while earning a team GPA of 3.41.

The Blugold women were fifth at Regionals and had two runners compete at the National Championships and boast a team GPA of 3.43.

In addition, several individuals earned All-Academic honors. In order to be named USTFCCA All-Academic, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) and finish in the top-25 percent at their respective regional.

Named to the All-Academic team for the men were Nick Petersson (Sr.- Brookfield, WI/Central), Darin Lau (Jr. - Eau Claire, WI/Immanuel)  and Riley Huffman (Jr. – Oshkosh, WI/North).

Callie Fischer (Jr. - Ashwaubenon, WI), Morgan Marek (So. - Muskego, WI), Karen Gomez-Ruiz (So. – Chatfield, MN) and Samantha Slattery (Fr. – Waunakee, WI) were named All-Academic for the women.
